Great tips from Provider Fan, Jen Cordaro!”Micky woke up with a little chest congestion this morning. We made her some homegrown echinacea and lemon verbena tea with raw honey* for now (in her sippy) but I started homegrown marshmallow water for tomorrow (second photo).

Marshmallow is an amazing plant for coughs, bronchitis and sore throats. It has a high mucilage content that coats the throat (and entire respiratory tract) better than anything I’ve ever found in commercial coat throat medicines/cough drops. It’s also great for digestive tract and repairing the stomach lining and to sooth sunburnt skin and rashes (think similar to aloe).

Heat destroys its medicinal properties and breaks down the mucilage properties so it has to be steeped in room temp water for at least 8 hours. I feel strongly that this is a plant that should be in every home garden. Buy some seeds, try it out. You won’t regret it. The entire plant is usable from leaf/stems to flower and root and it’s super easy to grow.*Honey isn’t recommended for babies under one.”
